Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures. It has the ability to dramatically alter a woman’s appearance and self-image. Women seek breast augmentation for a variety of reasons. Some are self conscious wearing certain clothing such as swimsuits or form-fitting tops. Others seek augmentation to become more proportional to the rest of their bodies. Some have asymmetry between the two breasts. For others, the effects of pregnancy and breast feeding have altered the size of their breasts. Finally, some patients simply want to be fuller on top.

Whatever your reasons, Dr. Mitchell can help decide if a breast augmentation is right for you. Dr. Mitchell will meet with you privately for a free consultation. Multiple factors will be considered to help determine what is best for you. This includes what type of implant you prefer (i.e., silicone or saline), where the implant should be placed (i.e., above or below the pectoralis muscle), and what incision should be used to place the implant (i.e., around the areola, within the axilla, or below the breast in the inframammary crease).  Each patient is unique, and Dr. Mitchell will help you decide what is appropriate for you.

A breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure. All sutures are placed internally to avoid the need for painful suture removal. Dr. Mitchell will see you one to two days after the procedure in his office. Some mild bruising and swelling may occur, however this usually resolves in a few weeks. Recovery is excellent with most women returning to their normal activities in a week or two.
